The Effectiveness of Social Group Work on the Quality of Life of Drug Consumer Clients

Introduction: The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of social group work cognitive-behavioral stress management training on quality of life of drug consumer clients at Tehran Khavaran homeless shelter.
Methods: This semi-experimental study was performed in two groups (case and control) with two months follow up using pretest/posttest method. In this study fifty addicts in Tehran Khavaran homeless shelter were randomly assigned in two groups (case and control groups, twenty-five person in each group). The case group received fifteen session of cognitive behavioral stress management and control group did not receive any special treatment. All participants in this study were administered with SF-36 quality of life questionnaire at the beginning, end and two months after intervention. At the end data were collected and analyzed using covariance and covariance with repeated measures test.
Results: The results of the covariance test showed a significant difference between two groups level at posttest in several aspects of quality of life; including physical function, physical role limitations, bodily pain, general health, vitality, social functioning and mental health.The results of covariance with repeated measures test also showed a significant difference at follow up level in both physical pain and public health.
Conclusions: According to the results, it can be said that this intervention is effective on quality of life of studied people.
