The Study of Effective Factors in Increasing Divorce Rate (Case Study: Divorced Couples of Sarpolezahab Town)

Introduction: Divorce, nowadays, has gone beyond the social damage and has turned to a social problem. A lot of factors contribute to the end of a marital relationship which identifying and trying to solve them has an important role in controlling and reducing this phenomenon. The purpose of the present study is to identify effective social and cultural factors of the increase in divorce rate.
Methodology: The present research is a survey one; and data collection tools are the combination of interview and questionnaire, developed by the researcher. The population includes all 100 couples applying for divorce who referred to Sarpolezehab justice during the year 1391. Census method was used in the present study, in this way all the aforementioned couples were questioned.
Results: The statistics show that the five following factors are effective in the increase in divorce in the aforementioned population: 1. Interference from the families 2. Addiction 3. Couples education level 4. Unfulfilled expectations 5. Forced marriage.
Conclusions: According to the research findings and the structure of today families and society, factors affecting divorce are increasing day by day, so the result will be the soaring divorce rate. Controlling these factors definitely needs formal and informal interventions such as: Informing families and youth through the media (especially before marriage and about their choices), legislation in order to strengthen marriages and legitimizing that people must refer to counseling centers before marriage.
