In this study, the effect of alexithymia construct on the interpersonal problems will be discussed among prisoners. Methods: In this study, 384 prisoners in the central prison of Kerman Iran were investigated; who had at least one interpersonal problems against themselves, other prisoners or social workers. They were selected according to the purposive sampling. All subjects completed the standard questionnaires; including Toronto alexithymia scale and the interpersonal problems. These questionnaires predicted probability of interpersonal problems. Results: The results based on the Pearson correlation test showed a significant positive correlation between alexithymia and the interpersonal problems. The results revealed that the facets of alexithymia include three subscales (difficulty in identifying feelings, difficulty in describing feelings, and externally oriented thinking) that can predict interpersonal problems among prisoners. Conclusions: Based on the results of this study, we proposed the IPT treatment to be trained and used by social workers and psychologists on reduction of communicational abnormalities among the prisoners in Kerman.
