The Effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Group Therapy in the Social Anxiety of Adolescent Orphan Girls

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment group therapy in the social anxiety of adolescent orphan girls. 
Methods: The research method was semi-experimental with a pretest-posttest design and unequal control. The statistical population of the study was all ten to twenty-year-old orphan and foster adolescent girls in the two centers of Ali’s Golestan and Sofraye Sakhavat welfare in Mashhadin year 2017. Sixteen girls who acquired high grades on the pretest of the questionnaire of social anxiety Kanver2000 were selected as the sample population by convenience sampling, and eight girls in each center assigned into the experimental and control groups systematically. Then, ten sessions of the acceptance and commitment therapy were presented for the experimental group. The control group received non. Finally, the posttest was taken from both the experimental and control groups. To analyze the data multivariate analysis of variance and analysis of differential scores were used by the help of SPSS-21 software. 
Results: Findings show that acceptance and commitment group therapy has been effective in reducing the social anxiety of the experimental group in comparison to the control group. [P<0/05] 
Conclusions: According to the research findings, it appears that this approach can be used to reduce the social anxiety of adolescent orphan girls.
