Introduction: Intimacy is a key index in marital relationships, which is an important feature of a successful marriage. This feature refers to the existence of interactions in couples. Loss or lack of intimacy is an index of chaos in marital relationships. The present study was aimed to examine the relationship between couples' intimacy and positive thinking with cognitive flexibility in married mothers of students of Tehran.
Methods: The statistical population of the present study consisted of all mothers of students of Tehran state schools, who were married at the time of the research and were between twenty-five to sixty-five years old in 2017. From whom a sample of five-hundred-four individuals was selected using a cluster multi-stage random sampling method; and questionnaires were applied. Data collection was done based on Bagarozzi couples' intimacy questionnaire, Ingram and Winski's positive thinking questionnaire, and Cognitive Flexibility Inventory (CFI). After implementing the questionnaires, the analysis of the data was done through Excel2013 and SPSS25 statistical software in two sections: descriptive and inferential by Pearson correlation test.
Results: Research results showed that there was a positive significant relationship between all components of couples' intimacy except for bodily and cognitive intimacy with positive thinking P<0.05; and that there was a positive significant relationship between cognitive flexibility and the total score of positive thinking with components such as daily positive performance and positive self-assessment.
Conclusions: By using positive thinking training for young couples or troubled ones, and increasing their marital satisfaction, intimacy, adaptiveness, and flexibility of couples could be increased.
