Individual, Family, and Social Factors Underlying the Improvement of the Quality of Life of Fathers of Blind Children, Qualitative Study

Introduction: Fathers face concerns and challenges with the birth of a blind child in the family. This study was conducted to investigate the individual, family, and social factors underlying the improvement of the quality of life of fathers of blind children.

Methods: This research was a qualitative study based on thematic analysis. The research population included all the fathers of blind children in Yasuj city in 2023-2024, from which eight were selected using the purposeful sampling method through semi-structured interviews until the data were completely saturated. 

Results: In this research, data analysis of three main categories led to ten subcategories. The category of individual factors includes general health, emotional self, self-efficacy, sense of purpose, and problem-solving skills. The family category included the support of the spouse and the support of other family members. The social category included interpersonal skills, support networks, and social awareness.

Conclusions: The results of this study showed that by examining individual, family, and social factors, fathers of blind children can be helped to improve their quality of life by implementing appropriate programs.
