Introduction: This study aimed to predict existential anxiety based on spirituality, post-traumatic growth, and perceived suffering among cancer patients in Tabriz, Iran.
Methods: This study employed a descriptive-correlational design. The study population consisted of all cancer patients in Tabriz in 2024. A total of two hundred patients diagnosed with colon, prostate, breast, or lung cancer were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Existential Anxiety Questionnaire developed by Good and Good(1974), the Spirituality Questionnaire Parsian and Dunning(2002), the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory Tedeschi and Calhoun(1996), and the Perception of Suffering Questionnaire developed by Schulz et al.(2010). Data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis in SPSS, version sixteen.
Results: The findings showed that spirituality and post-traumatic growth were significantly and negatively correlated with existential anxiety, whereas perceived suffering was significantly and positively correlated with existential anxiety. These variables were able to predict forty-seven percent of the variance in existential anxiety among cancer patients.
Conclusions: Given that spirituality, post-traumatic growth, and perceived suffering can predict existential anxiety, the development of intervention programs aimed at reducing existential anxiety among cancer patients is recommended.
