Introduction: Sensory defects is leading to living a mysterious and silent life. This is one of the reasons lead to losing social connections and so reduction of the quality of life and psychological well-being. The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of reality therapy training on the psychological well-being of deaf students in Isfahan, Iran.
Methods: The study was a quasi-experimental research with pretest-posttest and a control group. The study population included all deaf girl students between ten and twelve years old in 2015-16, who were selected based on convenience sampling method and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The experimental group received ten sessions of reality therapy (ninety minutes each) in five weeks while the control group received none. As a research instrument, Ryff's scales of psychological well-being questionnaire were administered to both groups, and then multivariate analysis of covariance used to analyze data.
Results: The results showed that psychological well-being (positive relations with others, environmental mastery, self-acceptance, autonomy, personal growth, and purpose in life) of deaf students in the experimental group was significantly increased by training reality therapy compared to the control group. (P<0.05)
Conclusions: Reality therapy training based on the acceptance of life's problems increase psychological well-being and quality of life of deaf people. Sensory defects, such as deafness have a profound impact on the beliefs of personal life, using such strategies can be largely preventing more problems.
