Association Between Happiness and Essential Five Factors in Personality

Introduction: Feeling of happiness has an important role in the quality of people’s lives. Due to this, finding the factors associated with this feeling is very important. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the association between the happiness and essential five factor in personality. Methodology: By random sampling method, 112 students (35 boys, 77 girls) from Behbahan Payame Noor University were selected to participate in this study. The participants completed the Oxford happiness inventory and five factory inventory of personality. Results: Using correlation analysis , the results showed that neuroticism (r=-0.292, p<0.001), extraversion (r =0.316, p=0) and conscientiousness (r=0.198, p< 0.018) were significantly related to happiness . There was no significantly relationship between openness experience (r=0.138, p=0.074) and agreeableness (r=0.117, p=0.110) with the happiness. On the basis of regression analysis, among five factor of personality, extraversion (p<0.001) and neuroticism (p< 0.002) were able to significantly predict happiness respectively. Total regression was found R=0.478, these results showed five factor of personality can explain 22.8% of variance of happiness. Conclusions: The results of this research show that extroverted and conscientious people experience more feeling of happiness compared with neurotic individuals.
